Our civilization is the most advanced the earth has ever seen. With major advancements in science and technology, we are now at the brink of great change. What change you ask; it can be our destruction or a complete change in our living standards and our control over planet Earth.
How advanced a particular civilization is, is measured in the terms of a scale known as the kardashev scale. The scale basically ranks a civilization based on its average power consumption harnessed by it from near by stars. According to this scale, there are three basic types of civilizations namely: Type 1,2 and 3.
Type 1 civilization: this type of civilization is also known as planetary civilization. This is the most basic type of civilization in which it has a control over all energy functions within a planet. This type of civilization can store and hardness any type of energy.
Type 2 civilization: this type of civilization is also known as Stellar civilization. It has control over its neighbouring parent stars as well as other planets and can harness energy from them.(the type of civilization we see in Star Trek movie).
Type 3 civilization: this type of civilization is the most advanced. Also known as the Galactic civilization, this civilization can control the power of the whole galaxy, it can hardness energy from different stars and planet within the galaxy. Such a civilization would be immortal.
Can you guess in which category our civilization falls in? It may sound shocking but our Earth hasn’t even achieved a type 1 Status! Our earth lies somewhere between type 0 and type 1 civilization. It can control the energy from Sun up to some extent and can hardness the energy available to it from its own planet, that is earth. Earth is currently at 0.72 type and will take approximately hundred years from now for the earth to become type 1 civilization.
But that’s good right, attaining a type 1 civilization means we can now use energy much more efficiently and conveniently, energy crisis will be overcome, but there’s also at different aspect to it. It said that the most difficult phase of a civilization is then when it attains type 1 status. We get the power to control energy, climate, weather and different phenomena on earth. Just imagine if we get that power right now, what will happen? the most probable chance is some powerful country we will gain control over earthquakes, natural disasters et cetera, result being internal death of the civilization.(the thread we have right now with nuclear bombs, think about the natural disasters, The things will be even worst).
In future if we develop a highly sophisticated space ship mechanism so that we may wander around in our galaxy, we may find the corpses of other civilizations, civilizations which died during their transition to type one. We may find planets poisoned with radioactive substances, natural disasters such as water scarcity, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions etc. Which lead to its internal death.
Does that mean in the coming hundred years our civilization will die? That’s not certain but that’s a probability. The pace with which we are moving, that day is not very far. Probably we all will see Earth’s type 1 civilization, but will we exist after that? Will we be be able to survive the type 1 phase? Or will it be the death of our civilization? All we have to do to find out is to wait for the future.
